It was always going to be hard to write a novel based on the life of Alexander the Great that didn't involve empires and the military, and I trust Elliott as a writer to know that she will ultimately subvert these things. It was just ... a lot. All the political machinations and court intrigue were amazing — I would quite happily have read an entire novel consisting of that!
