For me it doesn't really go in waves in the way you're saying. It really only happens with particular books or series, and it happens much less frequently now I'm an adult, whereas when I was younger it happened with virtually everything I read.

I really want to read Cold Magic, but they don't have it in the library here. In fact, I still need to finish Kate Elliott's previous series, as the third book from that is also not available at my local library.

I highly recommend the Romanitas series, and I think you'd really like it. I'd lend you my books if we were, you know, in the same country...
