Yeah, I guess my point is that you need to go into these things with your eyes wide open. I'd been saying I was going to do an Arts degree and major in English since I was about nine years old - although it helped that both my parents had done BAs and obviously found employment right afterwards. That had an effect on parental expectations, I think. The nagging I got from my mum was mainly about getting work experience, because I initially wanted to be a journalist, and she obviously knew first-hand that people were only getting into journalism if they had lots of experience in the field before they started trying to get full-time jobs.
