It was kind of awesome, although as I mentioned in the post, I went through periods of being intensely embarrassed about it. But overall I think it was a good thing. I remember telling one of my ex-boyfriends about it when I was nineteen, and he was outraged: 'But you and your sister were deprived of participating in your own culture!' I don't really see it like that. I've been able to catch up on any piece of '90s TV that I missed later in life, and at the time I was way more interested in reading books and making up stories about their characters than in anything on the screen.
