Well, the show's focus is definitely female friendships, both the good and the bad (and indeed the initial spark for all its conflict is the darker side of female friendships). I think it's fairly clear that I adore it, and I wish more people I knew watched it (so that I could talk to them about it!). However, if you are thinking of starting Pretty Little Liars, I should warn you that it is deeply silly and soap-operatic on some levels. These girls' lives are not realistic lives for a bunch of sixteen-year-olds. But the thematic core, and their strong friendship do have a truth to them, and this is why I keep watching.

I'm looking forward to that spin-off post. I'd love to hear what you have to say on this topic.
