Oh wow, so you got it at Christmas, and you were the same age as Will! How perfectly serendipitous!

I've only ever read it in English, but the language is gorgeous. Simple, in that it's a children's book, but resonant and beautiful enough to evoke the undercurrent of eerie, uncanny melancholy that runs throughout the entire series.
