'The Tiffany Problem' is a real and legitimate thing. The actual name for this phenomenon was coined by author Jo Walton, who is herself a good friend of Ada Palmer's. (Tiffany is a variant on the name Theophania, and it is attested right back to medieval times in England and France.)
