As I've said in response to other comments, the decision came as something of a relief, since I was starting to get incredibly anxious about all the points I'd be likely to catch COVID during the journey, and potentially spread it to my in-laws. But obviously they're all very upset that we can't go.

People who talk about catching COVID as a sign of moral irresponsibility drive me up that wall — at the moment, the biggest risk factors seem to be living in a big city, or working in the healthcare sector. I'm sorry your parents hold that view.
