We've been to Lake Bled (so pretty! so Photoshop looking!) and Ljubljana, and I'm fond of both (as well as Vienna, which I like a lot), and I'm glad you managed to have a good time despite non-ideal weather. Sorry to hear about the train trouble! (We used to try to take the train between Amsterdam and Brussels/Antwerp and gave up because every single time something would go wrong and the resulting recovery would be very chaotic.)
