Exactly! If it's tongue-in-cheek like A Knight's Tale, it can be really enjoyable — my problem comes more when something is written with po-faced obsession with 'extensive research' and 'historical accuracy' but has huge obvious unacknowledged biases.
In general, I think I prefer historical mystery series which use real historical figures and events as background to the mysteries, rather than stories that are straight up retellings of historical events with real people as the main characters.
