I'm not familiar with the Star Wars shows you mention, but any instance in which a show fundamentally changes its tone and emphases is bound to be disappointed, so your feelings about this seem entirely justified.
I never watched Doctor Who to begin with, so there was nothing for me to boycott there. I don't blame him for taking the role — presumably it was better paid and higher profile, plus I think he was a huge Whovian, making playing the Doctor kind of a dream role — but wow did his departure change The Musketeers for the worse!
