Thank you! I swam in the Atlantic once on the northwest coast of Ireland, but it was so cold that I didn't immerse myself fully so I don't really count that as the full experience.

Based on what you said about your parents' complaints travelling in England, I would definitely not recommend that they travel in Portugal with you. I did see some tourists being driven around in taxis, tuk tuks, and vintage cars that could be hired out for tours, but it seemed a really inefficient way to get around — Lisbon is not a city designed for driving. But if you're a walker (and don't mind hills, and wear appropriate footwear), it's a really enjoyable place.
