A brief and sleepy update

Normally I do a monthly write up of all the TV shows I've finished, and I also write mini reviews of every book I've read. I am going to have to grant myself amnesty from doing this for March — unfortunately the thought of doing so seems overwhelming.

I've just got one more day of work tomorrow, and then I'm on leave for the next eleven days — a very much needed holiday. Obviously we're not going anywhere — and the weather is going to be appalling, as it always seems to be on the Easter weekend — but we'll be able to rest, read, cook, and generally reset our batteries. I'm going to load up my Kindle with gentle, comforting books, eat a lot of hot cross buns, and just relax in the stillness of it all.

Just one more day of work to go.

Sounds like a lovely way to spend a holiday to me! I would appreciate you consuming some hot cross buns on my behalf and I don't have time to make some and you can't buy the real article here. :(

I just had the first of said hot cross buns, and it was excellent — so fresh that it was still warm from the oven. How terrible you can't get them where you are!

(The best hot cross buns I've ever eaten were those made in the bakery — run by a Swiss guy — where I worked aged 15-18. They were so popular that we had to come into work at 5am on Good Friday (obviously the bakers had been at work overnight) and bag them up into orders, ready to go for the 7am opening time. So many people preordered them that as well as every available shelf and cooling rack being covered with layers of bagged hot cross buns, the entire floor of the bakery and back rooms were covered with at least two or three layers of buns, and we'd have to pick our way gingerly through them to get to the shopfront.)
