Beside the seaside

My partner's parents visited us in Cambridge over the Easter long weekend (and will be here for the next week or so). We mostly stayed close to home, although we ventured out to the Scott Polar Research Museum on Saturday. On Sunday I cooked a rather over the top lunch, and yesterday we went on a bit of a seaside adventure to Hunstanton.



We stopped on the way at Castle Rising, which is a village that's grown up around a twelfth-century castle.





When we finally got to the sea, it was grim and grey.



As you can see, I had to wear my coat, and was actually wishing that I'd brought my beanie!



Matthias was happy to be at the beach.



After stopping for a lunch of fish and chips, we returned to the sea...



...to discover blue skies.




I love the sea, and I really miss it. In Sydney I was a five-minute walk from water, and had a clear view of Sydney Harbour from the roof of my apartment building. I grew up swimming in the ocean. I miss having it as part of my regular landscape.

mmm yes, you really miss the sea when it's not around any more. Looks like you had a lovely day though, despite the wind.

Yeah, it was great! It did make me want to do more day trips, though. We live in such a beautiful part of the world, and we hardly ever leave Cambridge to see it. (Admittedly, this is because I work six days a week and my partner works seven...)

Ah Hunstanton! I had a day trip out to there god about five years ago now, and it was loooovely. It was during the May half term too, alas, so it was packed. The seaside is the best.
