Date: 2013-07-29 04:18 am (UTC)I am no fan of the song or the video for lots of reasons but I do think that this video does some very interesting things
Unfortunately, there will be a sea of what I am coming to think of as privileged ignorance (I read something somewhere recently which talked about how the group in a privileged position doesn't list itself ie: black, Latino, Asian, mixed, a white person would skip their own "race;" a Christian person would skip that religion. The article argued this stemmed from them seeing themselves as the norm, so ubiquitous that they just assumed it was a given) in response to things like this for years to come. The "gentlemen" in question are so used to seeing their world view reinforced and their agenda accepted as rote that they react like rules have been violated.
For the most part, they have. These unspoken rules have been status quo for a long time and feeling your authority, your privilege challenged is scary. Though I doubt most of them realize that's why they disliked the video because the women aren't hot enough.
SadPandaFace, humanity, SadPandaFace.
