I've seen privilege described as a sort of river in which you float, and which only drags you down when something relates to you personally. So unless you fall into one or more minority groups, you are not necessarily going to notice stuff that affects people in those particular groups. You have to sort of train yourself to notice things. But it's not that hard to train yourself once you start noticing things.
One thing I've noticed in particular in relation to men having stuff like this pointed out is that they frequently don't see any problem, and instead react as if wanting to change stuff like this is somehow depriving them of vital human rights. It's infuriating and saddening.
