Reason why I am happy #1 Anne Rice is going to write another Vampire Chronicles book! In an interview with Time magazine Rice gave her fans some welcome news: Lestat lives. Unfortunately, the book won't be out for a few years, but if I can wait eight years for the fifth Obernewtyn book, I can certainly wait that long.

Reason why I am happy #2 The third Tide Lords book is coming out on Saturday. (catpuccino, I'm counting on you to buy it so that I'll have someone to discuss it with!)

Reason why I am sad #1 Narai Thai, the best Thai restaurant in Australia, has, after 23 years, closed its doors. I have been eating there since I was about seven years old. I'll miss the chicken satay, the pad see sehai, the tung thong, the fish cakes and all the other delicious food, as well as its unapologetically tacky decor. Now there's only Una's, Tropicana and Bar Coluzzi to stand against the depressing tide of gentrification that is sweeping through Kings Cross and Darlinghurst. Why can't a bit of the cheap-and-nastiness remain?

Reason why I am sad #2 None of the City of Sydney public libraries appear to have the second two books in Guy Gavriel Kay's The Fionavar Tapestry books. It's just cruel to have the first book in a series and then not the next two.
