Writers' Strike...
Mar. 20th, 2008 02:52 pmThere are some pretty nasty things going on at LJ at the moment, things that I'm not comfortable. When I joined LJ, there were only two options: free accounts, or paid accounts. Several years later, LJ Plus (I think this was its name), accounts with more features, paid for by ads, also became available. At the time, I chose not to upgrade to LJ Plus, because I've always had big problems with allowing myself to become a walking (or writing?) advertisement. I respected my friends' reasons for choosing to upgrade, but knew it was not for me, even if I couldn't have more userpics and other nice shiny features.
But now LJ has removed the option of free accounts. I think this is utterly appalling. And this is why I'm drawing your attention to the strike this Friday, and would urge you all to participate.
Thanks to
romen_dreamer who drew my attention to the strike. The link I've posted is to an entry on the strike written by a friend of hers.
