Day 05 – Your definition of love
This is one of the most difficult questions to answer for this meme. I think that love is different things to different people, and that there are many different kinds of love. The best I can say is that I am able to recognise love when I feel it, and I hope that's the case for most people.
What love is not: It is not inherently ennobling, it is not always about sacrifice, it is not (only) gratitude, and it is definitely not something you simply feel but don't show through your actions. It is not Twilight.
What love should be: It should be transformative, and more, importantly, make you want to transform, it should make you braver, smarter and able to know yourself better. It should make your 'youness' greater.
This goes for all kinds of love.
To be honest, when it comes to love, other people say it better:
'Love is a stranger in an open car, to take you in and drive you far away.'
'It's 9000 miles back to you/ I still feel that home is in your arms.'
'I don't care about the young folks, talking about the young style/ And I don't care about the old folks, talking about the old style too/ And I don't care about our own folks, talking about our own style/ All I care about is talking/ Talking only me and you.'
'I don't go to parties, baby/ Cos people tend to freak me out [repeat for concerts, raves and discos...]/ Things don't get no better, better than you and me.'
'There's a place for us, sitting here waiting for the sun/ And it calls me back, into the safe arms that I know.'
'Take a second of me/ You beckon, I'll be/ And when you're sad, I'll mourn/ And when you tear, I'm torn.'
This whole song is love. As is this.
'Love isn't brains, children, it's blood, screaming inside you to work its will. I may be love's bitch, but at least I'm man enough to admit it.'
