Friday open thread: achievements
May. 19th, 2023 01:12 pmToday's Friday open thread is (hopefully) a pleasant topic: what is one thing you've done this week of which you are proud, or which makes you feel a sense of achievement?
Mine is a yoga-related thing. As some of you may know, I've been doing yoga at home since 2020 (before that I had periods of attending classes, but it was much more sporadic, with big gaps in between short stretches of classes), and for close to the past two years, I've been at the point where I've been able to do yoga pretty much once a day, barring times when I've been travelling or visiting Matthias's family. That being said, although I've done this consistently, I often default to shorter classes — ten to fifteen minutes — rather than taking the time to do a long, thorough class. It probably averages out to roughly twenty to thirty minutes per day.
However, over the past twelve days, I made the decision to do every video in this vinyasa to yin playlist. Most of these classes are 45 minutes to an hour long, they're all at a more intermediate level, and they're pretty intense! It was much more of a daily time commitment, particularly on weekdays, but I managed it, it all went pretty well (I'm certainly physically stronger than I had thought), and I'm happy to have made the effort.
It was something of an experiment — I don't have the time to carve out an hour every single day forever — but it's good to know that I am capable of this, and it's encouraged me to include at least one longer class in my weekly schedule of yoga, even if I do now go back to mainly doing shorter classes.
What about you?
