Your experience in university sounds like my undergrad years. (Long story short: I started off with Celtic Studies - under the umbrella of English literature* - as one of my two majors. At the end of my second year, the lecturer left. I'd been expecting to do one more year of classes with her, and then write my Honours thesis under her supervision, and was suddenly being told I had to switch to a completely different subfield of English literature. I kicked up a massive fuss, and was allowed to continue under the joint supervision of a PhD student - who was similarly stranded when her supervisor left - and a senior academic whose area of expertise was Old Norse literature. It was complicated, but fun.)

Basically we studied whatever I could lay my hands on. I studied the Ulster and Fenian sagas as well as the Historical Cycle. Everything else was pretty much cobbled together.

That sounds really awesome. I love the Fenian material in particular.

Yay for The Raven King! I am so anxious waiting for it. Please, please don't break up my OTP by killing one half of it, Maggie Stiefvater!

*Obviously medieval Irish literature is in no way 'English' literature, but as in many universities, Celtic Studies was taught through the English department.
