I think a lot of people dislike my first dealbreaker — certainly when I've brought it up elsewhere, others have agreed. And I suspect its prevalence is coming from the real-world experiences of neglectful Hollywood screenwriter parents — see my comment to thawrecka above.

I hate your second trope as well. In general, I hate most 'chosen one' stories, and prefer it when heroism is a collective effort.
