To be fair, I think the Eurovision film was made out of a place of genuine affection — I know North Americans who are Eurovision fans, and it would appear that at least some of the filmmakers were (the music was definitely made by someone who loves and knows Eurovision music well). It was just the cliched underdog-gets-the-girl sports movie plot that they imposed on it — why, when you have the full flaming piano spectacular that is Eurovision, would you go for such a tedious (and heterosexual) plot?
