It was a massive disappointment. To be honest, it had a real 'old man yelling at clouds' vibe, like Pullman was just giving free rein to all the things he wanted to vent about. I'm reserving judgement until I've read the final book in the new trilogy, but as it stands I'm not hugely impressed.
