Beyond Selidor

It's a quote from the third book in Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy: We have to build the Republic of Heaven where we are, because for us, there is no elsewhere. Those books are among my most formative works of fiction, and it's for this sentiment particularly: we have to make things good and right here on Earth, rather than hoping for the promise of some distant 'elsewhere' (whether that is the Christian afterlife, or another planet).
