I have to link you all to this gloriously, hysterically kooky interview with Grimes, in all her anime fangirl, AI conspiracy theorist, batshit glory.

I've been a fan of Grimes' music since my then-boyfriend introduced me to it in a playlist more than a decade ago, and I still think Art Angels is an absolutely fantastic album. Grimes as a person ... not so much.

The interview is an exquisite piece of journalism. I don't know whether to describe it as giving its subject enough rope, a hatchet job, or what, but reading it was certainly a trip!

Not sure I'll read the article, though. Music journalism is hard enough for me to read on its own, let alone when the subject is as...fruitful as Grimes. :P

I've been a fan of Grimes since like 2013. A friend introduced her music to me via Genesis and I loved it. Still my favorite song of hers. I don't think I even heard any of the newer stuff? I am a little curious now.

'Genesis' was my first introduction to her music as well — my ex-boyfriend included it on a playlist he made. I haven't listened to much of her new stuff, although the songs I've heard from the Miss Anthropocene album are pretty good.

Totally fair enough. I don't really think of the interview as music journalism — it's more a look at her life, personal and professional, interests and influences. But reading it did evoke a strong sense of secondhand embarrassment, so possibly you're making the right decision in choosing to avoid it.
