I regret not learning those things either. As I said above in reply to another comment, my dad knows how to do those kinds of things, but my sister and I didn't grow up living with him and so he never taught us. My two grandfathers were super skilled at home repairs and maintenance (one was a civil engineer, the other was an architect, and they both built their own homes from scratch, along with loads of furniture). Whenever my mother needed anything fixed around the house, she always got one of my grandfathers to do it. Now I'm too intimidated and worried I'd cause damage, which means a lot of additional stress and money to pay professionals when something is broken or needs changing.
