Date: 2023-08-02 06:00 pm (UTC)OTW and most other spaces on the Internet have issues with racism, but negative admonishments and refusal to look outside American perspectives will not help ameliorate or fix the issues. I've often found a lot of language around American and fandom activisms to be fairly rebuffing and guilt trippy in assuming we should all be aware and know everything and if we don't, we suck. Or if we are too tired and underinformed, we also suck. Meanwhile, I, a random Eastern European only know so much because I have a Degree in Being Terminally Online and an overdeveloped sense of scrupulosity. Even those things didn't help the fact that I had no idea re: OTW's anti-Asian racism and before these tumblrs and DWs appeared, I had no way of properly finding out either.
I did donate for the first time and will vote, but I am looking to see what will happen next.
