Who else is in the 'fun' tariffs club as of today?
We 'only' got hit with 10% tariffs, which the Daily Fail (glimpsed in passing in the supermarket) breathlessly assured its readers on the front page was much less than the European Union and 'one of the key benefits of Brexit.' (Apparently we're all supposed to just accept that editorialising and opinion is a perfectly normal component of what should be a news article, but I guess that horse has well and truly bolted.)
There's another universe in which I listened to the advice of my undergraduate Honours thesis supervisor and applied for the PhD programme at Harvard's Celtic Studies department (as opposed to investigating this option, realising I'd have to take an exam as part of the application process, and the exam would involve maths problems, and I'd have to pay for it, which caused me to run screaming for the hills and apply to UK universities instead), and I thank past!Ronni every day for her choices.
Honestly, my mood right now is a mixture of hysterical laughter (re: the predictability of the British rightwing tabloids) and wanting to singlehandedly fight every authoritarian leader in the world, so I guess I'm coping fine in this ridiculous present moment.
