The new job is going slightly better, although I think various members of the editorial staff are using me as a weapon in various power plays ('I didn't give my permission for her to work here, I don't like you making these decisions without me', 'I did ask you for permission, and you gave it...' etc)

It's really annoying, because the internet there blocks heaps of sites, so I can't check my hotmail or go on lj. And my dad took his laptop to Melbourne, so I've had to go to Woden to use the library internet, which is annoying.

Nothing much interesting has happened to me, except I've got through three weeks at the new job without having a nervous breakdown or seriously raiding my dad's extensive liquor cabinet. I wish there were more people my age at the paper; the only people under thirty are a couple of reporters, whom I don't have much to do with, because they're always out on jobs, and the copy girls, who are too busy running around photocopying things and finding photographs, to talk much. And Fyshwick...I think Dante should include it as one of the hells in his Inferno (although what it would punish, I'm not sure...)I hated Fyshwick when I lived here, and I hate it even more now I have to work in the place.

You'd think I'd have learned, after 22 years on this earth, most of them spent in Australia, that if you go out in the sun, in a singlet top, in the middle of the day, you get burnt. Well, I'm an idiot, it seems - an idiot with a really hideous tanline, now. I tried to stay pasty and pale over the whole summer, and I was going so well...but someone as stupid as I was deserves everything she gets.

What have I been doing this summer? Not much - watching movies (The Queen - good, Babel - bad, Casino Royale - bad, Little Miss Sunshine - good, Prairie Home Companion - bad, A Scanner Darkly - good, I'm sure there were more that I've forgotten), reading many books (everyone gives me books for birthday and Christmas presents, and I also just got a boxfull of them from my editor to review) and seeing friends. New Year's Eve was especially good, although I wish I could have stayed longer (but had to work).

This is turning into nothing very much, so I might stop now.
