Tomorrow we leave Dublin for Rome, with a rather irritating 8 hour stopover in London. We're going to spend the time there going to Diwana's (fantastic Indian restaurant near Euston station) and changing traveller's cheques (because there's nowhere in Ireland where we could do it without a conversion fee...)

Yesterday was Christmas Day, and it was spent at the hotel. It was more like a wedding, all the tables were pushed together, and no-one knew anyone else. The conversations were initially limited to 'You're from Australia. I watch Neighbours' and so on, but then this very chatty elderly lady called Mella came to our table, and she was great at keeping the conversation going.

The food was not so good, especially since I was missing out on two rival Christmas dinners, cooked by my grandmother and my step-grandmother and step-aunt, all of whom are excellent cooks.

I don't really want to leave Ireland, partly because I'm dreading the flight out, but mostly because I've just felt so at home here (although at the beginning, Dublin had not lived up to my expectations). I don't know what it is, but it just feels like home, especially over in Clare and Galway (although I don't know if I could live in a small town, with everyone gawking at you each time you walk into a shop or pub...)

But I'm also really starting to miss home. It feels as if I've been away forever, and also like I've been living out of a suitcase forever (the longest we stayed anywhere so far was four days in Amsterdam, although in Rome we will be staying for nine days). It might be good to stop being a gypsy after a while.

BUT I'M SO SICK OF CHRISTMAS CAROLS!!!!!!!!!!!!
