Le weekend
Jan. 18th, 2010 07:31 pmI have had an absolutely fantastic weekend. It kicked off with graduate dinner in Hall on Saturday.
Pre-pre-dinner drinks in my tutor's rooms with all her other students: Wine, chips and nuts.
Pre-dinner drinks in the Senior Combination Room
A glass of Grand Prébois blanc, Vin de Pays de La Méditerranée 2008 on arrival in Hall.
Brill with dry Miso, served with a glass of Albarino, Orballo 2008
Squab breast with cous cous and savory chocolate vinaigrette (my friend A and I had no idea what 'squab' was. She looked it up. It was PIGEON!).
Roasted loin of venison with a juniper cream sauce, roast potatoes and vegetables, served with a glass of Château Tour du Haut Moulin, Haul-Médoc 1998.
Pumpkin custard with coffee icecream and grue de caco.
Artisan cheeses with quince jelly, grapes and spelt rolls.
Chilli chocolates, served with Graham Crusted Port 1998, Saint Joseph, Bernard Gripa 1999 and Monzinger Fruhlingsplatzchen Riesling Auslese, Emrich-Schonleber 2002. At this point, they were also passing around a bowl of almonds, hazelnuts and brazil nuts, and another bowl of fruit.
There were also post-dinner drinks in the SCR, but by that stage I had switched to water.
The next day, I caught a bus out with
losseniaiel, who was in Cambridge for a couple of days, and several other friends, to Reach, which is a small village nearby. We were celebrating the birthday of one of my friends, and it was a really excellent way to do so. We had a fantastic Sunday lunch in the pub there, which was delicious. It was a bit of a trek from the bus stop to the pub (and back again), which was excellent, as the food was fabulous, and served in large quantities. We rounded off the day with trips to several other Cambridge pubs, only tottering home around 11pm after closing time.
All in all, an excellent weekend.
