A couple of new memes

You know how sometimes people on your friendslist post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when were they working THERE? Since when were they dating HIM/HER? Since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you should already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.
Please copy the topics below, erase my answers and put yours in their place, and then post it in your journal! Please elaborate on the questions that would benefit from elaboration. One-Word-Answers seldom help anyone out. (:

3 Random Facts about you:
1. Until 2007, I detested the internet. As you can see, I've embraced it with the zeal of a convert.
2. When I was a six-year-old, I wanted to be a ballerina by night and a hairdresser by day. As you do.
3. I cannot bear the smell, taste or texture of bananas. They inspire an almost visceral reaction.
Story behind your username:
I used to use the username Dolour (which I stole from Ruth Park's book Harp in the South, not so much because of the character but because the meaning appealed to me). I didn't like how Dolour sounded the same as dollar, so I switched to the Latin version of the name. Dolorosa had already been taken, so I added a 12, which is my favourite number.
1. First Name
My given name is Veronica, which was chosen by my father. I went by Veronica until high school, when I switched to being called Ronni. I like the meaning of Veronica, but it has some not-great associations and I don't really think of myself as 'Veronica'.
2. Age
26.
3. Location
I'm in Cambridge, in the United Kingdom. I've lived here for just over two years. I'm from Australia.
4. Occupation
I work in the English faculty library at Cambridge University, and I also write book reviews for a newspaper in Australia, which I've been doing since I was seventeen. However, I think of my occupation as being 'student'. I am a second-year PhD student at the University of Cambridge, working on a thesis in medieval Irish literature.
5. Partner?
My boyfriend, M, is one of my favourite people in the world. We've only started going out really recently, but we've been friends for a very long time, and, to be honest, I wonder what took us this long. It sounds really cheesy to say, but we just work so well together. He makes me happier than I've been in a long time.
6. Kids
None. I would like to have children some day, though.
7. Brothers/Sisters
I have one younger sister and two younger half-sisters (although I think of them as sisters, rather than 'half-sisters'). Mimi is my sister. She is 22 and I love her to bits. We were closer as children and teenagers, but I still consider her one of my truest friends. When we fight, we fight intensely - no one knows you (and your weak spots) like a sister - but she is always there for you in a crisis, and that's what matters. Kitty and Nell are my half-sisters. We have the same father, but different mothers. Kitty is eight and Nell is three. My relationship with them is different to that with Mimi. I feel more like their aunt or an older cousin. There is no one else in the world who I love in such an uncomplicated way. I really miss all my sisters.
8. Pets
I don't have any pets, and I've never had any. I like animals in a sort of abstract way, but I've never really been what you could consider an animal person.
9. List the 3-5 biggest things going on in your life
1. My relationship.
2. My studies (in particular, making sure that I finish my PhD on time, and do a good job of it)
3. Enjoying life in Cambridge, and as a member of the ASNaC department - I'm sure I'll never have it this good again.
10. Parents
My mother and I are extremely close. I do not exaggerate when I say that life is good because of her. Everything she has done, and continues to do for me is so important to me. I love her to bits. My father and I have a more complicated relationship. I don't really feel like going into the reasons now, but I've written about it in the past on this blog.
11. Who are some of your closest friends?
M, ASNaCs, sraffies, some of the Obernetters, people from Canberra and Sydney, my mother and sister Mimi. I feel privileged to have friends all around the world.
12. What are some of the things you like most?
Aside from the obvious (see 11), books, the internet, my life right now, writing, blogging, music, good food, drink and coffee.
13. A photo of yourself and anything else you want to say:

Me as a bridesmaid at
anya_1984 and
jonjonc's wedding.
'I quietly observe, standing in my space/ Daydreaming'.
