Today I woke up feeling mentally exhausted, and for some reason the only thing my brain could focus on was chores and housework. This has meant that today I did the following:

  • Cleaned the bathroom

  • Made a massive vegetable soup, 2/3 of which I froze and the other 1/3 of which will feed us for a meal or two next week

  • Made pesto

  • Did a long yoga session which focused on the shoulders and upper back; that part of my body has been aching since I've had to start working from home, even though I have my standing desk

  • Read the one short novella I could manage (Silver in the Wood by Emily Tesh, atmospheric and folkloric m/m love story about a folklorist and the human embodiment of the Green Man who lives in the woods near his house, very reminiscent of Uprooted)

  • In the afternoon I fell asleep in my chair, and woke up still feeling exhausted, so I lay in bed for a while before getting up to cook dinner. I'm still feeling really, really tired, but hopefully a good night's sleep will help.

And now, a couple of memes. First up, the travel one which everyone's been doing today — as each of you have remarked, it's quite bittersweet in light of current circumstances.

Last time I travelled abroad: August, when I went to Dublin for Worldcon. Normally I would have travelled at Christmas time, but last year Matthias's parents came to us. We were going to be travelling to see them in Germany at Easter, but that's obviously not going to happen.

Last time I slept in a hotel: August, again. We stayed in an incredibly nice hotel during Worldcon, much better than any I'd normally stay in (and in fact it's kind of a running joke that Matthias and I end up in really odd, hilariously awful hotels, because we make the same mistake every time of picking accommodation based on price and proximity to the city centre). In Dublin we really lucked out.

Last time I flew in an aeroplane: Again, in August, returning from Dublin.

Last time I took a train: Probably about a month ago when we went to Ely to hang out with [personal profile] notasapleasure and her husband. I would have been getting a train to London for a day conference this Friday, but that's been moved online.

Last time I took public transport: If the train doesn't count, I honestly can't remember. I walk everywhere in Cambridge, apart from the odd occasion when I meet Matthias in town after work for dinner instead of going home, and I can't remember when that last happened.

Last time I had a houseguest: I think it was May last year when we had [personal profile] notasapleasure and her husband stay over and watch Eurovision with us. We stayed at their house in Ely over New Year's Eve, so I was a houseguest myself more recently.

Last time I got my hair cut: Thankfully just three weeks ago. I normally only cut my hair once every three months, so I'm set until July, and if things drag on longer than that, to be honest I think my hair will be the last thing on my mind.

Last time I went to the movies: Probably in mid-February, when I saw Portrait of a Lady on Fire.

Last time I went to the theatre: In June, when I saw Henry V at the Globe when my mother was visiting. Matthias and I also saw one of the open air Cambridge Shakespeare Festival shows over the summer (they perform them in the gardens of different colleges, and you can bring your own picnic dinner), but I think that was earlier on.

Last time I went to a concert: In December last year, when I went to this fantastic gig in a tiny metal scrapyard in Islington, which was low key and amazing, exactly how I like concerts to be. (I've just realised that actually this must have been the last time I stayed in a hotel, in one of the budget chain hotels in central London after the gig.)

Last time I went to an art museum: The same trip to London, when Matthias and I saw Olafur Eliasson's 'In Real Life' exhibition.

Last time I sat down in a restaurant: About three weeks ago, when Matthias and I had a free three-course meal at the Cambridge Chop House (one of a number of restaurants owned by a company called Cambscuisine — if you eat at every one of them in a twelve-month period you get various freebies, of which the free three-course meal is the final reward once you've completed the loyalty card).

Last time I went to a party: I guess it would be the party for New Year's Eve, unless Zoom parties count.

Last time I played a board game with more than two people: New Year's Eve with Matthias, [personal profile] notasapleasure and her husband.

I'm planning to do this fandom meme over the course of April, although I realise that the meme only has 26 entries and April has 30 days. I might modify some of the questions, though, as a lot focus on things you dislike, and in a fannish context I'd rather talk about things I like.

A: Ships that you currently like a lot. (They don’t have to be OTPs because not everyone has OTPs.) Friendships, pairings, threesomes, etc. are allowed.

B: A pairing – platonic, romantic or sexual – that you initially didn’t consider, but someone changed your mind.

C: A ship you have never liked and probably never will.

D: What was the first thing you ever contributed to a fandom?

E: Have you added anything stupid/cracky/hilarious to your fandom, if so, what?

F: What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom? What fandom was it?

G: What was your first fandom?

H: Do you prefer live action TV shows or animated TV shows?

I: Has online caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?

J: Name a fandom you didn’t care/think about until you saw it all over the internet.

K: What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?

L: Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves.

M: Name a character that you’d like to have for a friend.

N: Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice).

O: Choose a song at random, what ship does it remind you of?

P: Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas).

    Q: A fandom you’ve abandoned and why.

R: Which friendship/platonic relationship is your favorite in fandom?

S: Show us an example of your personal headcanon.

T: Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending?

U: Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.

V: Which character do you relate to most?

W: A trope which you are virtually certain to hate in any fandom.

X: A trope which you are almost certain to love in any fandom.

Y: What are your secondhand fandoms (i.e., fandoms you aren’t in personally but are tangentially familiar with because your friends/people on your dash are in them)?

Z: Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go!

I hope everyone is having as good a weekend as possible, under the circumstances.

The current times & news are a big mental load. Rest up!

I also cleaned the bathroom on the weekend. Then put my plants back in & and got to pleasantly admired clean tire and fresh greenery.

I really liked The Silver in the Wood too! Looking forward to the sequel as well :)

I have quite the weed situation, so it may prompt me to spend more time there ^^ seeds & seedlings are hard to find, but I have a few established herbs growing already. Currently I have eight plants in my office, but I'm thinking of trying propagating too!

June I believe! Tossing up getting the ebook or paperwork since the cover is so ~pretty~

I was able to get radish! I was looking at the soldout onion + garlic and thinking, well, they take 6 months to grow. Plus garlic + onions have largely been in stock!

I always do chore when I'm mentally exhausted. :9 It keeps me going but I can do it more or less on autopilot.

I always enjoy fandoms memes, so I will gakk.
