For (hopefully) obvious reasons, I'm pretty exhausted and not capable of a lengthy post. We're all moved into the new house, the old house has been professionally cleaned, and the lease ends on Friday. I'll do a proper write-up of the entire move, new house, and new town a bit later on. For now, an update in bullet points.

  • We've been here since Tuesday. It still feels a bit like we're on holiday somewhere — we have been working, but it's weird adjusting to a new house after eight years in the same place, and this still sometimes feels like a holiday house that happens to have all our furniture. I'm sure this will pass.

  • We unpacked the kitchen stuff and our clothes and bedding on Tuesday, and everything else on Saturday. Everything was basically put away by Saturday afternoon, apart from a few books that needed rearranging and a few remaining pictures to be hung on the wall. We did that today.

  • I was able to get rid of all packing boxes, packing paper, and bubble wrap on Facebook Marketplace. I was happy to give them away for free, but the woman who took them gave us a bottle of prosecco ('because moving boxes are so expensive!'), which was a nice added bonus!

  • The washing machine was delivered and installed without any problems.

  • I've just bought all the remaining essential bits and pieces to be delivered next week (things like bins for the bathrooms, doormats, etc), and arranged for a new veggie box delivery (the small farm shop we used to use doesn't deliver to our town).

  • I haven't had much energy for reading, so the only book I've read in January so far is the first Bridgerton novel. I enjoyed the TV series, and the book didn't really add any depths to it (if anything the characters were better in the TV series), but it was about the level my brain could handle.

  • It has been freezing here, to the extent that all the trees were covered with ice — and the cobwebs too, as you can see from this photoset.

  • Yesterday it was foggy all day, but today it was cold and clear, and we spent the entire morning walking first in one direction from our house and then the other, getting to know all the places our feet can take us.

  • All in all, a good first five days, although it would be nice if we could go out into our garden at some point, other than to put rubbish in the bins!

I forgot to comment about it (although of course I responded to the people who gave me gifts) as it happened on moving day, but [community profile] fandomtrees went live on Tuesday, and I got five wonderful gifts — four batches of icons, and a sweet little ficlet. Here's my tree. I wasn't able to create any fanworks this time around, but I did give recipes as gifts on some of the trees of people who had requested such things, so I feel I contributed something to the fest at least. I hope everyone else who participated in [community profile] fandomtrees had an equally enjoyable time — for me it was a wonderful little surprise on a stressful moving day!

I could do with one more day of weekend, but since I'm not going to get it, I shall head off to start preparing for the week to come.
