Three links for a snowy afternoon

I will follow this linkpost with something of an update (which should hopefully represent a return to more regular writing here), but for now, have some links to things which have been delighting me recently.

I tend to use Instagram as an oasis of calming and beautiful things, so I'm always on the lookout for accounts which fit those criteria. Two new-to-me accounts, which you may enjoy, are as follows:

urhanoglukozdekunefe: a Turkish bakery making variants on baklava. It's basically loads of videos of the baker (who looks as if he's a time-travelling member of a '90s boyband) baking things on an open stove.

theswissshepherdess: should be fairly self-explanatory from the name. Lots of videos of sheep, dogs and other farm animals running around snowy mountains.

The third link made me laugh a lot, but possibly requires a bit of context. Basically, singer Amanda Palmer (who I tend to find pretty insufferable) claimed that after the US inauguration, she went into her local cafe (she's currently living in New Zealand) and was spontaneously applauded by everyone there. This was greeted with a lot of justifiable skepticism and eye-rolling.

The response was incredibly New Zealand — this hilarious 'fact-checking' article, which made me laugh and laugh.

However, the overarching impression the tweet left is that New Zealanders are a kind, generous and publicly effusive people. That idea has been proven false by the backlash to the tweet, among many other things. It is rated Four Pinocchios, and will one day be lowered with Satan and the rest of his lies into the fiery pit. Now, it is time to end this uncivil war. The answer is not to turn inward, to retreat into competing factions. Unity is our path forward. May god bless you all and may god bless the United States of New Zealand.

Isn't it just fabulous?

She has been in NZ for ages — I think she's now got permanent residency.

And yes, the Gaiman/Palmer relationship is the wank-filled drama gift that just keeps on giving. I like some of his books, but ... well, the pair of them deserve each other.

Interesting she'd go for PR in NZ - great time for it though, but they were there pre the dark times.

In the past I felt bad for never really falling in love with his prose and struggled to even finish one of his works (Good Omens was tempered by Pratchett). And now... well, as you said, their personalities deserve each other.
