I've got to remember not to go into central Cambridge on the weekend, especially in summertime. The place was swarming with tourists, and was even more packed because the undergrads were graduating today. [livejournal.com profile] katiefoolery has ranted a bit about this herself, but I'd forgotten how selfish most people are about the footpath. No one ever moves out of the way, even when they're walking two abreast. I walk very quickly and I tend to get exasperated with slow-moving groups of tourists. I had the same experience when I went for my run in the evening: no one would move!

It was like Cambridge was pretending to be Sydney for the day. Not only was it 30 degrees, but there was a dude busking with a digeridoo. I thought I'd been transported back to Circular Quay. Then, when I went to my second-favourite cafe (it's way out on Mill Road, and I knew my favourite cafe, which is in central Cambridge, would be packed), they were playing Monsieur Camembert! It was like being in Sydney in 2005, and was quite excellent. (I think that someone involved in that cafe was in Australia at some point, because it is very like a Sydney beachside cafe in feel, and they make long blacks and flat whites rather than black or white Americano coffees.)

July is looking set to be a very excellent month, although God knows when I'm going to be able to do any actual work. Mum's getting in to London on Tuesday, and we're going up to Southport to visit my cousins for a bit, before returning to London to go hiking along the Thames with some of our friends. Then we'll be in the 'Bridge for a bit (while I pretend to do work) before finally returning to London. And then just as she's leaving, Alex is coming to London for five days, so yay!

Oh, this weather. It is making me want to do nothing besides listen to the Monsoon Wedding soundtrack, which I associate so strongly with summer.
