When I was a little girl I was incredibly gullible. I believed in fairies and the easter bunny and Santa Claus way longer than is natural. But most of all, I believed in ghosts.
I was absolutely convinced that there was a group of ghosts living in and around my house. And these ghosts were:
1. Mary, who was the ghost of a sixteen year old girl who had been buried in our herb garden. (on the wall of the herb garden the name 'Mary' was scratched into the concrete).
2. The ghost of a 3 year old boy who had been buried alive under the tiles of the bath.
3. A ghost called Misty who hovered over the roof of the house across the road. She had apparantly fallen to her death.
4. Numerous other passing spirits.
For about 2 years, I was obsessed with ghosts. I wanted to be a writer and write and illustrate my own ghost stories. Whenever we had to write stories at school, mine were about girls (who bore a suspicious resemblance to me) hanging around in graveyards and making friends with ghosts. My teachers must have thought there was something seriously wrong with me.
After a while, I grew out of my morbidity.
But the whole thing seemed so real at the time.
