The autumns, the autumn

My favourite season has pretty much always been autumn. This is mainly because I find hot weather unpleasant, dislike the sensation of being overly heated, and don't like wearing light summer clothes. Conversely, I love the feeling of being well rugged up in warm clothing, and I love the way warmer clothes - coats, scarves, hats, gloves - look. You know how the clichéd woman is supposed to be obsessed with shoes? I have pretty much zero interest in shoes, and tend to make a beeline for the coats whenever I walk into a clothes shop.
However, winter, especially in Europe, is too cold for me. My circulation is dreadful and my hands and feet are permanently cold, and in winter it's almost too much to cope with. So autumn is the perfect ambient temperature for me. I can wear a coat and scarf without either freezing or sweltering.
I also just like the mood of autumn, the sense of the year wrapping itself up, the contemplative weight of it all. The air feels right, the colours of the leaves are beautiful and the whole season just evokes feelings of reflection and taking stock, gearing up for a new academic year while saying goodbye to a new calendar year. (I should add that I've only experienced that particular characteristic of autumn since moving to Europe, as before that I lived in Australia and we have autumn from March-May. I like Australian autumn too, though.)
