I hope everyone had as good a Yuletide as I did! It's sometimes hard to find people who like the same small, Yuletide-eligible fandoms as you do, so I thought it would be great to do a friending meme after reveals, so that people could find and add the authors, recipients and commenters who made their 2018 Yuletides so enjoyable.

Haha! I take it you were medievalist/librarian-adjacent, rather than studying those things yourself? I've generally found medievalists to be a pretty fun bunch of people, very similar to fandom in a lot of ways (and of course with quite a degree of overlap between the two communities).

Looking forward to talking to you about books as well!

I hung out with medievalists a lot and there's a world in which I went into history/medieval studies instead of psychology/education, and I live with two librarians. So, yeah, very adjacent. I also just love the specific kind of fannishness that medievalists have -- the line between fanfic and original work becomes very blurry when you think about things like The Mere Wife, which is a modern AU Beowulf story focusing on the women; and also all of Arthuriana is liminal like that.

Oh, you are absolutely spot on when it comes to medieval literature (obviously also the different attitudes to authorship, originality and canonicity in medieval times are much more fannish than they are like modern copyright and so on).

Thanks for the reminder of The Mere Wife, which I've been planning to read for a while, but had slipped my mind. I'll have to get onto that!
