Nice things that I've done this weekend:

  • Walked with Matthias in the nature reserve, watching swans, cygnets and ducks on the river, and sheep in the field across the water

  • Begun an Avatar: the Last Airbender rewatch (I'm so glad it's on Netflix!)

  • Written about six thousand words of fanfic for a fic no one but me will ever be interested in reading (this is not me being passive aggressive or performatively humble: I know what I like, and I know what fandom at large likes, and this fic is not it, but the id wants what it wants)

  • Done a hatha yoga session focusing on the lower back (my lower back has been in agony since the end of the working week, even though I have my standing desk at home)

  • Woken up at 6am this morning and sat curled up in my wing chair in the living room, drinking tea, watching the rain fall, appreciating the stillness

  • Listened to a lot of Pendulum music, like it's the summer of 2010 all over again

  • All in all, a great way to spend two days. What have been the highlights (if any) of your weekends?

Ah, Skuld and I just finished an A:TLA rewatch! Even if it's not on Netflix here. Such a wonderful watching experience. I am so fond of it and it makes me so happy.

Also: congrats on id fic! It's so much fun to indulge.

I feel like if you haven't been in this exact place often, you aren't really a fanfic writer. The most relatable!

Just wrapped up attending about 24 hours of a 29-hour (originally planned for just 24 hours) Zoom song sharing meetup. About 150 people from around the world joined in at various times: the bulk from the US, Canada, Britain, and Germany, which are the global centers of the movement encompassing the genre, but some from various other places in Europe, a few Aussies, and one from Japan. A marvelous time was had by all, until there was nobody really left in fit shape to continue.

It was wonderful! Not quite 29 hours straight; I don't think anyone managed that. We started an hour late For Reasons, and then went down for about four hours in the dark of night. I don't think anyone was there for the whole thing. The most dedicated attendees managed 26-27 hours.

And we paid for it the rest of yesterday, and overnight. Pretty much back to pandemic normal now, though. The consensus opinion seems to be "Let's do this again -- next year."

A lot of cartoon and YouTube watching a little bit of writing was the highlight of my weekend. I also watched Avatar: the Last Airbender, though for the first time, and discovered there must be some weird rights deal issues re: streaming in Australia because Netflix had season 1, 17 episodes of season 2, and then 13 episodes of season 3, whereas a different streaming service had all of it.

I suspect the issue is that Netflix used to have the rights to the whole series (because that's how a friend of mine watched it recently), and when I watched they were in the process of losing part of the rights. Which is still a little strange.
