I somehow missed this back then, but wow it packs a punch.

Doesn't it just? It so perfectly captures the mood of the time: people were literally dancing in the street that Howard was gone, but nobody trusted Rudd to be the saviour we all wanted him to be.

And on and on it goes.

It's a fantastic song, and so prophetic in what it was saying about Australian politics at the time, and where the world was heading. I listen back to it from time to time and think, but we were all so happy and relieved, back in 2007, to have voted those ghastly right-wingers out. How could the group have known, even then, what terrible things were going to happen?. But of course the whole point of the song is that in voting out our ghastly government for a reasonably decent centre-left one, we were just repeating a familiar pattern, and everything would unfold in exactly the same way as it had done before.
