Post-reveals Yuletide friending meme
Dec. 31st, 2017 11:37 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I hope everyone had as good a Yuletide as I did! It's sometimes hard to find people who like the same small, Yuletide-eligible fandoms as you do, so I thought it would be great to do a friending meme after reveals, so that people could find and add the authors, recipients and commenters who made their 2017 Yuletides so enjoyable.
Please feel free to share this meme far and wide. To participate, just leave a comment on this post, copying the code below and filling in your own answers. I've enabled anonymous commenting so if you don't have a Dreamwidth account you can still participate.

Preferred platform(s): DW (I'm not using Twitter much these days)
I like to post about/read about: I post about my life, mostly: my spouses and toddler, Judaism, how tired I am, things like that. I do write about writing, but not much about fandom. I cut-tag all the posts about my kid so folks who aren't into reading about kids can skip them. I love reading other people's quotidian blogging; I started my LJ back in 2001 when it was all about keeping a journal, and that's still my preferred mode here.
Fandoms (including bigger, non-Yuletide fandoms): I'm extremely multifandom and not intensely into anything.
This Yuletide I wrote: main collection: Persuasion x 3, The Princess Bride, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Sorcerer to the Crown; Madness: Rocky Horror Picture Show, Gardenscapes, "1952 Vincent Black Lightning". Links and details here.
Any recs from this year's Yuletide and/or Madness collection? I put all my recs into the yuletide_recs bookmarks collection!
Anything else you want to say: My three gifts were for Patricia Kennealy-Morrison's Keltiad series and I would love to befriend the people who wrote them for me! It is a teeny tiny fandom and I am so grateful to have gotten some work for it.

Preferred platform(s): Dreamwidth/LJ. If you have both and only want to add my account on one, I recommend DW, because these days I check it more often.
I like to post about/read about: My posts are maybe roughly 50 % fannish things, including book geekery and writing fics and such, and 50 % RL stuff. Most RL stuff tends to be friends-locked, as well as some of the fannish things that end up in those posts. RL things include all kinds of bits and bobs from what's going on in my life, from weather and nature to baking to work angst to ballet squee to whatever; the occasional angst about What I Will Do When I Grow Up (because in my 30s I'm no clearer about that than before); and occasional mental health flailing (am recovering from depression and anxiety). I've been a bit irregular the past few months, but am planning to post more often again.
What I like to read: a mixture or RL and fannish/geeky things. People being themselves and posting what they care about. Ponderings of writers, history or science geeks, bookworms, people sharing fandoms I love. It depends on you, really! If you're being yourself and we share some dear interests, then the chances are, I'll enjoy reading it. But I don't like reading journals devoted mainly to fandoms I don't know, journals that are only feeds for a Twitter account etc., or where half or more of the content is memes and questionnaires.
Fandoms (including bigger, non-Yuletide fandoms):
Yuletide-size fandoms:
Wayfarers series - Becky Chambers (The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet and A Closed and Common Orbit)
Finishing School, Parasol Protectorate, Custard Protocol by Gail Carriger and the other assorted bits and pieces in the same universe
Le Comte de Monte Cristo / The Count of Monte Cristo - Alexandre Dumas (especially for the f/f)
I also enjoy reading Jane Austen and L.M. Montgomery book fandoms for femslash or other female-centric stories
Also, things that I've enjoyed reading/watching lately but am not yet caught up with: Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries (Dorothy Sayers), Alpennia series (Heather Rose Jones), Sense8, Broadchurch, The Crown
Bigger, non-Yuletide fandoms:
Doctor Who (new Who, haven't watched any Classic Who yet), Torchwood
This Yuletide I wrote: Words That Burn, f/f for The Count of Monte Cristo, Eugénie Danglars/Louise d'Armilly. 19th century pretty-damn-much-canon lesbians, music and poetry!
Any recs from this year's Yuletide and/or Madness collection? I'm so behind on my reading, so I there are wonderful stories I haven't read yet, but here are a few I've particularly loved:
my own gift, The Christmas Pudding Caper, in Finishing School - Gail Carriger
these fics: The Value of a Wet Day in the Country, Jane Austen - Mansfield Park, Fanny Price/Mary Crawford
White Violets, Red Roses, Anne of Green Gables series - L.M. Montgomery, Anne/Diana
Itch, Wayfarers Series - Becky Chambers, a lovely Ohan gen fic, Ohan & Artis Corbin
Anything else you want to say: Other things I love: writing original fiction, reading reading reading lots of things (novels, poetry, non-fiction about science, history, travel writing, biography/memoirs), ballet (both watching and recreational ballet dancing, though I'm still a beginner), drinking good tea, learning languages, seeing musicals and plays, listening to classical music, listening to John Barrowman sing, travelling, nature, starting crochet and knitting projects but not so much finishing them, apparently.
Oh, and please drop me a comment somewhere if you want to be friends, I might not notice if you just add me without telling me you did it.

I like to post about/read about: Books, tv series and movies. Fanfic. I also post a bit about my life in general and about my sewing- I make historical clothes for fun.
Fandoms (including bigger, non-Yuletide fandoms): Doctor Who, both Classic and New. Versailles, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, The Mummy, Penny Dreadful, and I dip my toes a little here and there. I’m hopelessly multi-fannish
This Yuletide I wrote: The Borgias and Peter Pan
Any recs from this year's Yuletide and/or Madness collection? I loved both my main gift and my treat, which were a Case of Charles Dexter Ward and a Deadwood fic.
Anything else you want to say: I have four cats, two dogs, and one husband. Also a teenage son. I like perfume and history. I live in Sweden.

I like to post about/read about: I try to read a bit - mostly fantasty and sci-fi (books, short stories, comics) and occasionally post reviews. I participate in a few other challenges each year as well! RL and cats come up as well.
Fandoms (including bigger, non-Yuletide fandoms): Small fandoms - Craft Sequence, Divine Cities, Old Kingdom, Natsume Yuujinchou and now the Bear and the Nightingale (I will write fic eventually!). Bigger fandoms I guess YOI, Riverdale and HP. Though I've been very slack with big fandoms of late!
This Yuletide I wrote: Murderbot! for the second time now. Looking forward to the new novellas later this year! I also wrote Rivers of London and Craft Sequence treats.
Any recs from this year's Yuletide and/or Madness collection? my gift, of course. I also bookmarked some of my favourites (half way through I realised I should do this!)
Anything else you want to say: I have 2.5 cats (because a cute little black cat likes visiting me - I think that's good luck actually).

I like to post about/read about: My own LJ is a mix of fandom, writing, and real life. And I'll read entries about everything I can understand or relate to, be it fandom or real life.
Fandoms: Comics mostly, both DC and Marvel. Also the movies and shows for both of these, then there's Voltron, some anime (ie Psycho Pass, One Punch Man, Hunter x Hunter, Yuri On Ice, SNK, Bungo Stray Dogs, Yona Of The Dawn, etc.) and a lot of smaller or older show and movie fandoms (like Terminator Genisys, Sense8, Mad Max, Killjoys, Pacific Rim, The Hunger Games, Strike Back, The Killing, 12 Monkeys, Wynonna Earp, Z-Nation) and a bunch more. I'm multifandom as heck and flexible and never know what I get into next. XD

I like to post about/read about: Fannish things. Sometimes cats. Occasionally life and stuff. My Twitter is a little more focused on current events and live-tweeting TV.
Fandoms (including bigger, non-Yuletide fandoms): A non-exhaustive list: Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, Doctor Who, Eerie Indiana, Gilmore Girls, The Good Place, Star Wars, Stranger Things, The Twilight Zone, Z Nation.
This Yuletide I wrote: Print the Legend (Thelma & Louise) and The Long, Weird Night of the Kitten Shark (Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency)
Any recs from this year's Yuletide and/or Madness collection? I still haven't made it through the entire collection, but I have a couple of posts here and here with things I really liked so far.

I like to post about/read about: Daily life, work (I'm a research librarian at a very interesting place), intriguing things I've come across. Periodic posts referred to as 'librarian smash' where I take on bad research. I'm interested in other people talking about stuff they know about or are intrigued by. Most posts in my journal are locked, but I am very amiable about adding people.
Fandoms (including bigger, non-Yuletide fandoms): I don't talk a lot about fannish stuff in my journal at this point, but I enjoy other people's commentary (especially meta or why-they-like-something recs). I was a player-author in a long-running alternate universe Harry Potter project (Alternity) and have all the opinions there. Other favourites include Leverage, The Middleman, The Librarians and I am currently doing a rewatch of Doctor Who starting with Hartnell (at the moment, in the later Davison episodes.)
This Yuletide I wrote: Power of Air, three scenes related to The Fire Rose by Mercedes Lackey (one during and two after the book).
Any recs from this year's Yuletide and/or Madness collection? Here's the rec post I've managed so far.
Anything else you want to say: I read most things that come across my reading list (not necessarily things linked to, but the posts themselves) but started on the Internet in the days of Usenet, and tend not to comment unless I've got something specific to say beyond 'hey, that's cool'.

Preferred platform(s): My preference would be Dreamwidth, but I'm happy to add people and be added on any of the others too.
I like to post about/read about: A mixture of fannish and non-fannish things. I post book reviews, recs posts of both fanfic and original fiction, as well as longer meta posts. Occasionally I post about politics, and about being a migrant. I also post quite a bit about my everyday life - I'm a librarian in an academic library, and I used to be a medievalist academic, and I post about both those things from time to time. I'm online for discussion, commenting and interaction, and I love talking to people about things that interest them.
Fandoms (including bigger, non-Yuletide fandoms): I'm both extremely multifannish, but extremely loyal to the fandoms in which I'm invested. Most of my fandoms are small, Yuletide-eligible book fandoms: Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials and Sally Lockhart Mysteries books, The Pagan Chronicles series by Catherine Jinks, Galax Arena and the Space Demons trilogy by Gillian Rubinstein, pretty much everything Victor Kelleher has ever written, the Bone Season series by Samantha Shannon, the Romanitas trilogy by Sophia McDougall, the books of Kate Elliott, Leigh Bardugo's Six of Crows duology, Maggie Stiefvater's Raven Cycle, and a whole lot of mythology, folk tales and fairytales. In terms of larger fandoms, I'm very into Star Wars at the moment (I loved The Last Jedi), and thoroughly enjoyed Thor: Ragnarok. Older, larger fandoms include Mad Max: Fury Road and the Netflix Jessica Jones series.
This Yuletide I wrote: Four fics, in the Court of Fives, the Dark Is Rising sequence, the Six of Crows series, and 'Seasons of Glass and Iron' fandoms.
Any recs from this year's Yuletide and/or Madness collection? I must recommend in particular my Pagan Chronicles gift fic. I've done a more extensive recs post here.
Anything else you want to say: I absolutely love talking to people about books, and I get a large number of reading recommendations from my Dreamwidth and Twitter feeds. I'd be very keen to friend anyone who's interested in talking about books!

Preferred platform(s): Dreamwidth! (LJ at a push, and I do at least have a tumblr; it's juust not where you'll find me)
I like to post about/read about: Fannish things, writing memes, history, hobbies, people being enthusiastic/thoughtful about fannish things, reviews etc.
Fandoms (including bigger, non-Yuletide fandoms): Doctor Who (all of it), Blake's 7, Once Upon a Time, Spooks, Sapphire & Steel, Press Gang, but also many tiny Yule-fandoms - lots of very old British TV (for reasons), golden age detective things, creaky old BBC historicals, Heyer, Diana Wynne Jones, Adam Adamant Lives!, Babylon 5, The Librarians. But DW aside, I'm a multifannish butterfly who can't put fandoms down properly.
This Yuletide I wrote: arrows to the heart (15th C RPF)
Served Cold (Dracula TV 1968)
Of Human Bondage (or Five Times Adam and His Friends Found Themselves All Tied Up) (Adam Adamant Lives!)
Any recs from this year's Yuletide and/or Madness collection? My first recs post is here but I'm still going slowly through the collection, and there will be at least one or two more posts - so much good stuff!
Anything else you want to say: Maybe some idea about what I use my Dreamwidth for would be useful? Which is largely babbling about very old TV (and sometimes film), writing memes, posting fic and icons, links, recs, reading Wednesdays at least sometimes, and occasional flocked moaning about being ill (I have CFS/ME; it's v tiresome!) and sometimes long picspams of particularly random old cardboard TV. I do usually comment rather than not, but it depends.

I like to post about/read about: In general, I'd love to just pick up more fannish friends who want to just... be friendly! Whether I know your fandoms (in which case, I'd love to read fandom promotion posts) or not, more interaction in 2018 would be awesome. Fannishly, I like co-writing or just riffing off in comments, and talking about worldbuilding or what people've watched or read recently. Translation-y stuff, too!
Fandoms (including bigger, non-Yuletide fandoms): Oh, god. Scifi stuff (Vorkosigan Saga, The Culture, and now The Sparrow), Pratchett, Final Fantasy VII, Hikaru no Go, anything I've ever written -- I've been around a long time and can be convinced to read anything in any fandom, so...
This Yuletide I wrote: This stuff: https://karanguni.dreamwidth.org/269656.html - Machineries of Empire, Vorkosigan Saga, Tang Dynasty RPF, Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu

I like to post about/read about: Mostly books! Sometimes music (generally musicals, opera, or classical), and sometimes my two crazy sweet kiddos E and A. I usually manage to say a little about Hugo-eligible works, these days. Occasionally I get into a TV show.
Fandoms (including bigger, non-Yuletide fandoms): I seem to have fallen into The Good Place lately! I adore Fullmetal Alchemist (manga and Brotherhood). And Les Miserables (musical, Brick, recent movie). Besides that, um. Are random SF/fantasy books a fandom? And maybe random medieval Welsh texts? I totally think operas and musicals make great fandoms?
This Yuletide I wrote: The Tale of the White Lady of Iffish (Earthsea) and A Cord of Three Strands (Keltiad - Kennealy-Morrison).

Anything else you want to say: Lately life has been busy enough that I've had trouble keeping up regular posting to the DW, and I must confess that it doesn't look like it's going to get that much better this year… but eventually I should be able to get better at it! I like reading similar stuff - fandom community is my thing. I am a fan of fandom. I will cheer you on in November if you're a fellow NaNoer.
Fandoms (including bigger, non-Yuletide fandoms):
Larger fandoms: These days, it's Person of Interest in the main, but I'm very multifannish. I come from X-Men fandom via Doctor Who and Harry Potter. I'm paddling around the edges of Black Sails at the moment. And The Exorcist series.
Smaller fandoms: Ee, there are lots! Any iteration of John Constantine (so, Hellblazer, Constantine the movie, Constantine the TV series), Imperial Radch, iZombie, Sanctuary (the TV show - does it count as a small fandom? It used to be in Yuletide but I think it sized out...) Lord John Grey, The Black Tapes podcast...
This Yuletide I wrote: Handshake Protocol. It's Murderbot Diaries (by Martha Wells - read it, it's awesome!) and a five-things type crossover with other sci-fi AI containing canons.
Any recs from this year's Yuletide and/or Madness collection?
My wonderful gifts, for the music video 'New Rules' by Dua Lipa, and the painting 'Beautiful Losers II', all linked here.

Any recs from this year's Yuletide and/or Madness collection?
tragically i'm still not through with commenting on everything, but here are my yuletide_recs bookmarks this year, some of them already with notes; i'm going through and catching up on feedback.
Anything else you want to say:
- i talk about fandoms et cetera more in comments than in actual posts, but you should feel absolutely free to talk to me in the comments about them.
- i'm very multifannish - i haven't had a One True Fandom in years - but i'm also very, very strongly hurt/comfort oriented, in whatever fandom i'm in.

I like to post about/read about: Books! I love to read, and I love to discuss books with others. I've been on a big LGBTQ+ Fantasy/Sci-Fi kick lately. And by lately, I mean for the last decade or so, but it's gotten easier to find things now thanks to Goodreads.
Fandoms (including bigger, non-Yuletide fandoms): Harry Potter, A Song of Ice and Fire, The Queen's Thief (book series by Megan Whalen Turner), Westmark (book series by Lloyd Alexander), various other fantasy books that have super small/non-existent fandoms (Swordspoint, Doctrine of Labyrinths, Dragon's Winter, The Rifter by Ginn Hale).
This Yuletide I wrote: The Things You Build Yourself (Queen's Thief fandom)
Any recs from this year's Yuletide and/or Madness collection? I created a themed rec list for fandoms that feature canon LGBTQ+ themes: here.
Anything else you want to say: One of my resolutions this year is to be more active on Dreamwidth, so I'd love new friends. If you friend me, I'll reciprocate. I need activity on my reading page. :)

I like to post about/read about: Most of the year, I post somewhat sporadically about whatever media has caught my interest and about adventures in life. Starting around August, though, I talk a lot about Trick or Treat and then Yuletide, my two favorite fannish times of year. I love to read about people's lives and hobbies and interests, and I read and comment more often than I post, most of the year.
Fandoms (including bigger, non-Yuletide fandoms): I love things with werewolves. As for individual fandoms, yoo many for a complete list, but here are the ones I've posted fic in lately:
Lilo & Stitch
Lost Boys
Never Cry Werewolf
Jurassic Park
Confident (video) - Demi Lovato
Fast and the Furious series
Roswell (TV)
Baby-Sitters Club by Ann M. Martin
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
This Yuletide I wrote:
Endless is the Good, a Lilo & Stitch story focused on the sisterhood between Nani and Lilo as Lilo grows up.
Neon and Blood, a f/f Lost Boys story about Star and Maria and falling into love and vampires.
Hunting Monsters, Monsters Hunting, a mix of Confident (video) by Demi Lovato and Jurassic Park series where the characters Demi and Michelle Rodriguez play in the music video hunt dinosaurs and have sex.
Not the Hunter, Not the Prey, a Never Cry Werewolf story where brand new werewolf hunters have to take on a vampire.
Lost Boys Like Me, a Lost Boys threesome fic about what it takes to make people kill.
Any recs from this year's Yuletide and/or Madness collection? I have numerous rec posts on my DW, and I post all recs on AO3 into the yuletide recs collection.
Anything else you want to say: Lately, I've been talking a lot about some nostalgic media projects under lock, so if you're interested in 80s and 90s children and YA genre books, you might want to check me out.

I like to post about/read about: I post about books I read (SF/F with lots of other random things, click my book tag if you're curious), occasional fanworks, occasional RL stuff, nature geekery, and about my political work (I am active in a worker's union and in an environmental organization that works with forest conservation--I am Swedish so if you're trying to avoid American politics it probably won't bother you). What I like to read about on DW, hmm. I love talking about books, and am interested in lots of other subjects. Nature, politics in a wide sense, language, science, relationships...
Fandoms (including bigger, non-Yuletide fandoms): I used to be hugely into due South, but now I'm not really in a fandom, mainly just lots of rarelit stuff. I do have a rekindled love of Star Wars though, and wrote a Cassian/Bodhi ficlet recently.
This Yuletide I wrote: An Undiscovered Country (The Dark is Rising, Will/Bran)

I like to post about/read about: This year I'm resolving to make my fandom posts public and split my private life discussion from fandom discussion. Anyone new will likely see 100% fandom discussion, and that includes fic recs, exchanges I'm participating in, other DW communities I'm interested in, meta/fanon I like, headcanons, random squee, etc.
Fandoms (including bigger, non-Yuletide fandoms): The Baby-sitters Club, Captain America, Captain Planet and the Planeteers, Cold Case, Heartbeat (UKTV), Marvel Cinematic Universe, Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, The Mummy (1999), Scooby Doo, Sleeping Beauty (1959), Tangled (2010), Voltron: Legendary Defender

Any recs from this year's Yuletide and/or Madness collection? I'm yet to truly start going through the collection because I've been sick, but I have to rec every single one of my gifts, which all blew me away. I got the Charlie/Mary Anne BSC fic of my dreams this year and I can't stop smiling about it.
Anything else you want to say: I feel like my squee/enthusiasm can be annoying, so apologies in advance. Just brace yourself, I guess. I'm mostly into tiny fandoms, and scatter myself across them depending on how well they fit into fic exchanges. I've become a fanatic fic exchange participant and I want to hang onto that -- I had a blast in 2017 writing so much and getting involved in fandoms I'd never written before. I want to do more of that in 2018.

I like to post about/read about: TV, movies, books, theater, classical music, writing, family. Politics, unfortunately, given the current circumstances in the US. Links posts for things that interest me. Fic recs, when I have 'em.
Fandoms (including bigger, non-Yuletide fandoms): Well, in number order of fics written, the larger fandoms would be The X-Files and Fringe; Yuletide fandoms, The X-Files RPF, and The Americans. I've posted two fics for The Mysterious Benedict Society, one last year. Two for Charade. One for thirtysomething. I am kind of working on a crackfic for Timeless. And a Civil War AU for The X-Files.
